Program Manager - DevDiv Job
Date: Mar 3, 2010
Location: Redmond, WA, US
Job Category: Software Engineering: Program Management
Location: United States, WA, Redmond
Job ID: 710015 11821
Division: Server & Tools Business
Change is in the air. We are quickly moving away from large, bundled, monolithic software packages to flexible, agile and composable offerings. Visual Studio is no exception: the rising popularity of open source development tools, the increasing breadth of Microsoft platforms developers wish to target and the growing richness of our ecosystem require that Visual Studio change from our current one size fits all, to an online “living” product that gives developers what they need, when they need it. A new version of Office released? Developer tools targeting it are at your fingertips. A new ecosystem partner created a plug in you're interested in? Super easy to find and acquire. Fancy developing a mobile app for a Windows phone? Mobile tools are quickly added to your Visual Studio.
The Deployment Technology Group in Developer Division creates the deployment experience for the Visual Studio family of products. We are looking for a strong Program Manager to join our Deployment Experience team and deliver this next generation deployment experience for Microsoft's flagship developer suite. As a PM on the Visual Studio deployment experience team you will interact with customers via our forums and community to understand their expectations and needs, you will collaborate with Visual Studio teams across the organization to understand their deployment requirements and you will learn from our deep telemetry what our customers really do with the product. All of that is distilled into deployment experiences and features you will design and spec for our next version of Visual Studio.
Qualifications:
A great candidate is passionate about our developer customers, has experience with Visual Studio, and has experience with deployment technologies such as Windows Installer and chainers. Qualified candidates will have a track record of the following skills:
• Work both independently and in a team environment with little supervision
• Taking ownership, prioritizing and getting the right things done in a timely manner
• Ability to effectively work with development and testing in the feature team, and also other software development partners such as Loc, UX, and UE.
• Ability to understand customer requirements and transform them into features that have a great user experience
• Strong Project Management, Analytical Problem Solving and attention to details
• Excellent verbal and written skills
• Strong cross-group collaboration
3+ years relevant working experience is desired.
A degree in Computer Science, EE or equivalent work experience is required.
