We have an immediate opening for an experienced attorney to join the Legal & Corporate Affairs team (LCA) that supports Microsoft's Server & Tools Business (STB). STB is Microsoft's $15+ billion business that is delivering technology innovation that helps IT professionals and developers build highly optimized and agile IT infrastructures.
This attorney will work as part of a team supporting product development, business strategy and transactions for Microsoft's Business Platforms Division, which is responsible for Microsoft's database and application servers (and related cloud services) and data programmability and modeling technologies.
The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will be:
Provide frontline legal support to BPD product engineering, management and marketing teams responsible for Microsoft's application server and data modeling technologies, as well as other products or services as may be required to meet business demand.
Advise executives and other business clients on intellectual property licensing, marketing and distribution, competition law, regulatory frameworks and other complex legal and business issues.
Drive deals by structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of legal agreements, such as strategic alliance and joint marketing agreements, inbound and outbound license and distribution agreements, services agreements and other commercial agreements.
Work with the other legal professionals in LCA to develop and implement process-related improvements that facilitate the efficient and effective delivery of legal services across Microsoft.
We are looking for an attorney with:
J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, excellent academic credentials, and at least three years of experience as a practicing commercial/IP attorney.
Outstanding analytical, writing, and oral communication skills.
Sound and practical business judgment, ability to think strategically, and desire to establish a “trusted advisor” relationship with executives and key business clients.
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.
Ability to solve problems with a focus on achieving results that benefit our business, our customers and our partners.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, interacting with a variety of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures.
Prefer candidates who are familiar with antitrust, interoperability, standards and open source software issues.
