About Us:
Windows Phone is a rapidly growing business and we continue to improve our focus and processes to rapidly commercialize the new WM software and services with our OEM and MO partners. A component of this evolution is the creation of a new Hardware group within MCB.

Part of that group will be responsible to help drive rapid commercialization of WM by active management of relationships and technical direction with key hardware partners for the mobile business.

Principal Mechanical Engineer:
The Microsoft Mobile Communications Business group is looking for a highly motivated, team-oriented Principal Mechanical Engineer to successfully lead system level development of cutting edge handheld devices, with a passion to push innovative and imaginative solutions that meet the company's business vision.

Scope of responsibilities / Expectations:
*Lead detailed product concept explorations, including new and emerging technologies, and in selection of chosen concepts and features for detail developments
*Detailed mechanics project planning to successfully execute on delivery dates & selection of development partners for participation in the delivery of chosen technologies
*Lead the execution of complete device design and development and mechanical architecture definition from concept selection to production readiness
*Risk mitigation planning and test definition for new technologies/processes, analysis of test results and change recommendations
*Participate in tooling vendor selection, supplier selection and technology qualification
*Cost model planning, and exploration/consideration of various manufacturing / finishing technologies to meet business needs and cost goals
*Interface across multiple product development disciplines: Hardware, ID, Usability, RF, Reliability, Procurement, Tooling, Manufacturing, Program Management

Specific Knowledge / Experience / Skills:
*Extensive experience in electromechanical product development, with 6+ years of direct experience in the development of small form factor devices
*Experienced in successfully bringing high volume, high reliability, compelling mobile products to market
*Successful prior experience in integration and development of mechanisms in small form factor devices
*Demonstrated experience in the selection and integration of a range of input/output devices/components (audio, visual, touch, feel) for high volume, cost competitive mobile products
*Highly competent engineering capabilities for review of FEMs, Tolerance Analyses, Test results
*Excellent communication and program management skills
*Direct and extensive experience in a wide range of manufacturing processes, materials and finishes
*Design experience in meeting safety and regulatory compliance for mobile devices
*3D Cad Skills (Pro-Engineer WF3)
*B.S. Mechanical Engineering

The candidate must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) to support design and manufacturing activities.
