Do you want to be part of Microsoft's strategic and exciting mobile device business? Are you an energetic self-starter looking for an opportunity to define and drive strategy, work with partners, influence the ecosystem and be part of a unique engineering team?
The Windows Mobile OEM Commercialization team is responsible for ecosystem engagement and integration, representing and advocating OEM product development within Microsoft and managing the commercialization and customization of Windows mobile through a dedicated engineering team, reducing time to market and increasing competitive differentiation, while maintaining a high quality Windows Mobile brand. The team will partner with OEMs in the adoption and adaption of Microsoft's hardware reference designs and signature industrial designs combined with OEM innovation to build strategic and compelling product portfolios. The Commercialization team will also define and champion quality initiatives focused on device design and integrated experiences across the Windows Mobile division and with OEMs and mobile operators.
As a senior product planner, your will focus on Works on multiple feature areas and/or major releases; on an undefined or highly diffused market/ecosystem or segment and diverse stakeholder groups. This may include evolving or new technology and influence is across several product teams.
You are responsible for:
Defining long term portfolio for OEM partners that has long term sustaining business potential.
Capitalizing on the OEM brand strength in a way that melds with Windows Phone brand.
Synthesizing and adapting research to guide decision making.
Combining industrial design and software experience to create a differentiated phone.
Sharing best practices on portfolio planning and influencing partners with other teams.
Responsibilities
Engage with stakeholders
o Drive partner and ecosystem participation in the definition of product vision.
o Drive end to end definition and acceptance of product vision by executives.
o Drive engineering and UX preparation for discussions with mobile operators.
o Bridge between marketing, engineering, and partners to drive business initiatives and resolve issues.
Define viable long term product portfolios are strategic to the OEM and are profitable and sustainable long term.
o Define and focus the team on target audience.
o Define deep differentiating customer experience and forward looking features.
o Analyze and synthesize primary and secondary market research.
o Recommend portfolio strategy and drive portfolio approval process.
o Rationalize MO and OEM segmentation. Drive joint segmentation if possible.
o Work cross-team to gather and synthesize competitive intelligence.
Participate as an integral part of the engineering team throughout the product life cycle
o Recommend device definition and drive device approval process.
o Work with designers on concept exploration and user interaction.
o Manage roadmap and validate product requirements and design.
o Provide engineering with feedback throughout the product life cycle.
o Collaborate with engineering to deliver feature specs.
o Participate in feature prioritization.
o Drive content development for field and customer.
Skills
Critical to be a strategic and results-oriented business leader.
Must have a blend of business, financial, and technology perspectives.
Must be able to manage multiple projects with multiple high priorities.
Must be able to interact with executives and senior management of OEM and mobile operator partners.
Able to drive decisions that stay.
Have excellent communication skills and has executive presence
Must be a creative thinker and can identify winning features.
Adept in learning from the past. Can articulate pros and cons of past incidences and share best practices.
Ability to influence a multi-discipline virtual team and partners.
Focused and result-oriented. Get things done and do them right.
Can think end to end: from customer input, negotiating with mobile operators, educating the field, value to the customers and mobile operators.
Ability to think in terms of framework and taxonomy.
Is agile in networking, anticipating reactions on decisions. Must be good self- and people-awareness.
Must be a self-starter in a fast-pace, dynamic environment.
Qualifications
Must have over 10 years of experience in product planning, program management, strategic market management, or marketing.
Experience with technology industry, preferably in software, mobile devices, or networking.
Experience with shipping technology products and working with engineering.
Experience with working with partners.
Passionate about the mobility business.
MBA preferred.
