It is also vitally important to Microsoft's future success as the Internet, social networking, media, applications, and advertising inexorably go mobile. The industry is still in its early stages and there could not be a better time to join the action and help Microsoft's mobile business (MCB) win with the launch of its next release of Windows Phone. This will be the most important mobile software launch in the company's history and will be backed with the largest consumer marketing campaign in MCB's history.
What better place to have a direct impact on the business than on MCB's Global Retail Go-To-Market team? This group of highly motivated, creative, fun, and whip-smart consumer marketers is looking for someone to define our global go-to-market and competitive strategy for driving sales of Windows Phones through our retail sales and distribution channels. Close to 90% of smartphones are sold in retail sales channels of mobile operators and distributors. The retail sales floor is the center of the Smartphone competitive battle. This is where final decisions are made by consumers for which phone they buy. A critical aspect for most consumers influencing their purchase decision is their interaction with retail sales reps and the recommendation they make. It is critical that our competitive positioning and messages resonate and are conveyed through the retail sales reps. These messages also need to be conveyed through our complete in-store experience to the consumer. To compete effectively, we need to drive excitement in retail stores for Windows Phones through creative experiential marketing. We also need to win in retail stores for both the mobile operator and the distributor channels.
This role is to own and lead MCB compete strategy to win in the retail and distribution sales channels. This role is to drive sales in retail stores through leading the experiential marketing strategy and programs creating in-store excitement and reaching consumers. This role is responsible for leading our global distribution strategy partnering with our field marketing teams to drive sales through distributor retail stores. This role is central to MCB's strategy for winning in retail and distribution in the intensely competitive smartphone category.
Responsibilities:
Lead the Windows Phone global strategy for competing effectively against Apple, Android, Blackberry, and Nokia in the retail and distribution sales channels.
Develop the Windows Phone competitive positioning and messaging frameworks for winning in the retail sales channel.
Develop a robust competitive intelligence program for assessing competitor launches within retail and capturing field feedback to inform our retail go-to-market strategy.
Lead the experiential marketing strategy and programs to drive Windows Phone sales and bring the experience to life with consumers.
Spearhead MCB's global distribution marketing strategy and programs to drive sales of Windows Phones through mobile distributors selling into mobile operators and retailers.
Define core success metrics for the global field teams and work with field teams to track progress against goals.
Partnering with MCB's global field retail marketers so they can execute locally with partners.
Own MCB Executive communication of retail compete, experience marketing, and distribution efforts as well as key market insights gained from our field's direct interaction with partners and customers.
Outcomes You Will Drive:
Competitive positioning of Windows Phones in partner retail channels.
Unit sales and market share of Windows phones through partner retail and distribution channels.
Customer and partner satisfaction with Windows phones.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate has excellent consumer marketing strategy and execution skills and experience. A proven ability to utilize deep customer understanding and marketing strategy to focus and drive the business across internal and external partners. You have a track record of building scalable marketing strategy and executing on your strategies with drive, precision and excellence. You think creatively about customer/business problems and generate innovative solutions. You and can deal with ambiguity and multiple partners. You are fiercely competitive and driven to win in the smartphone industry.
Candidates should have an MBA in marketing, or equivalent, with at least 8 years of leadership experience in promotions, competitive assessment, advertising, marketing communications, and related disciplines. You must have experience in driving successful market research and cross-functional integrated marketing programs.
Experience working in or with the Mobile Industry or Retail businesses is hugely beneficial though not mandatory.
